Precision Machinist

Swanson-Erie Corporation, since 1919, a leader in advanced machine design and build, is seeking a Precision Machinist.

 

The primary purpose of our Precision Machinist is to setup and operate basic manual tool room equipment, lathe, milling machine and grinder in order to produce precision parts. The position applies knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures. The position will require routine machine maintenance.

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Work from drawings, work orders, and instructions covering production parts or tooling requirements.

  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery.

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.

  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials.

  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machining tools to perform precision machining.

  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers, gages, surface tables and comparator.

  • Make repairs and/or regrind carbide tools, drills, tool holders and other tools as required.

 

Education & Experience:

 

High School Degree or equivalent minimally required. 2 Year Technical Degree or completion of Relevant Apprenticeship program required. Experience and on-the-job training may be used in lieu of a formal apprenticeship program.

 

  • Minimum 3-5 years professional tool room experience; 5+ years’ experience preferred.

  • Must have personal small measuring tools, indicators, and similar items.

  • Must have the ability to trouble shoot tooling problems.

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. and ability to move heavy parts using cranes, slings, carts and other devices.

  • Willing to work overtime and weekends as required.
