Mechanical Design Engineer

Swanson-Erie Corporation, since 1919, a leader in advanced machine design and build, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Design and engineer static and dynamic portions of factory automation equipment including structural, drive train, fixtures and end of arm tooling

  • Analyze problems, conceptualize solutions and interface routinely with colleagues in mechanical engineering, controls, project & departmental management

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, bills of materials and computer-generated reports

  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, drawings and manuals

  • Evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.

  • Develop manufacturing drawings and detailed bills of material suitable for production and in accordance with applicable standards

  • Interface with outside vendors and customers

  • Assist in the construction and debug of designed systems

 

Skills:

 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills

  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge

  • Self-motivated, highly organized and able to learn software

  • Proficient in solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred), 2D (AutoCAD preferred), MS Office Suite (Excel & Word)

  • Basic working knowledge of drafting practices, including GD&T

  • Basic knowledge of machine shop practices

  • Basic knowledge of commercial automation/mechatronics

  • Basic working knowledge of FEA is a plus

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology; associate or technical degree will be considered

  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial environment

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical design

 

Variations from the above requirements will be considered.
